What Is ‘Worked’ Glass? Why the Accent Looks Different From the Tube

The accent colour on the base and mouthpiece is described as ‘worked’ glass. This means the accent colour is applied using a second glass colour rod during the blowing process while the glass is still molten, fusing the accent colour permanently into the glass structure at those points. The result is a colour that is part of the glass itself rather than a surface application. On the Worked Full Color 2 Kink Zong, the tube colour is a full-colour borosilicate tube, while the accent is worked onto the base and mouthpiece using this technique — giving the piece a visual contrast between the smooth, even tube colour and the organically applied accent colour at the ends.

5mm Thick Walls: The ZongGlass Standard

Every Worked Full Color 2 Kink Zong is built on 5mm thick borosilicate glass — the same wall specification ZongGlass uses across its standard Zong range. In ZongGlass’s own words: ‘Heavy enough to stop the cat from tipping it over, but light enough to avoid cramping upon continual use.’ At 5mm, the tube is substantially thicker than the 3mm or 3.5mm glass used on most import bongs, providing meaningful thermal mass, greater resistance to accidental impacts, and a premium weight-in-hand feel that distinguishes the piece from thin-walled alternatives immediately upon picking it up.
